"Art has the power to reconnect us with the wild soul of our landscapes."
Sudarshan Shaw is an artist and visual designer based in Bhubaneswar, India, known for his distinctive art style Folk Indica. His work draws deeply from India’s cultural heritage and ecological richness, bringing wild and winged creatures to life using earthy mediums like mud, water, and primary colours.
Over the past five years, he has collaborated with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), State Forest Departments, NGOs, and conservation organisations to create visual tools that foster ecological awareness. He has produced over 20 biodiversity maps across India, translating complex ecosystems into powerful visual narratives.
His work has been featured in leading platforms such as Scientific American, Sanctuary Asia, and Condé Nast Traveller. Sudarshan has presented at institutions like IISc, Azim Premji University, and India Science Festival 2025, alongside exhibitions and community initiatives like Jan Van Chitran, where art, forests, and communities come together to celebrate biodiversity.
Folk Indica is a unique art style created by Sudarshan Shaw that blends traditional Indian folk art forms with modern ecological storytelling and wildlife conservation. It's a way to visualize the deep, inseparable bond between humans and nature.
